Beneficiaries

Estate and Trust beneficiary details are maintained in the Beneficiaries, Tax Return Data screen, allowing you to update the vulnerable beneficiary election, Vesting records, discretionary payments, and update R185 details.

Attaching an existing client/contact as a beneficiary

  1. Open Beneficiaries under the Tax Return Data section.
  2. Select the ellipsis in the next available blank row.

  1. Select one of the three search types: Name, Code or Address.
  2. Type the contact details and then press Search.
  3. Select the required contact(s) from the list of matching clients, then press Add.

  1. To pass HMRC online filing validations, all Beneficiaries must have an address.
  2. When no address exists for any of the selected contact(s), the Add option is disabled.
  3. To add the contact’s address, select the Client Code or Name hyperlink, or select the row of the affected contact and then press Edit. This opens the contact’s Central record, with the Address tab active.

Note: if multiple contacts have been selected, this selection is lost when using the Edit option.
In this scenario it may be quicker to de-select contacts without an address and then add those where the address is present. 
Then edit the contact(s) with missing address’, and re-select these contacts in the Beneficiaries data screen to add them.

Creating a new contact as a beneficiary

If required, new beneficiaries can be created from within the Beneficiaries data screen.

  1. Open Beneficiaries under the Tax Return Data section.
  2. Select the ellipsis in the next available blank row.
  3. Press New to open Central’s Add New Contact Wizard. Enter all contact details as required then select Finish.
  4. The new contact is automatically added to the Beneficiaries data screen, and Central’s client window opens allowing you to review your entries.
  5. If the new contact has no address a warning message is displayed, advising the contact has not been added to the Beneficiaries data screen as an address is required for online filing.

  1. The contact’s Central window opens. After adding the address, open the Beneficiaries data screen and re-select the contact.

Editing an existing beneficiary

Existing beneficiaries can edited or changed from within the Beneficiaries data screen.

  1. Open Beneficiaries under the Tax Return Data section.
  2. Select the ellipsis in the required beneficiary’s row.
  3. Confirm the pre-populated name is correct, then press Search.

To edit a beneficiary

  1. Select either the Client code or Name hyperlink, or select the row of the affected contact and then press Edit.
  2. This opens the contact’s Central record, with the Address tab active.
  3. Edit the necessary information.

To replace the current beneficiary

  1. Search for the new beneficiary.
  2. Select the required contact from the list of matching clients, then press Add.
